The National Day of Romania will be celebrated, once again this year, at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall in New York, and Millennium Stage at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, in Washington, DC.
SoNoRo returns after five years to Carnegie Hall to celebrate the quartet’s 10th anniversary. Edith Eisler, from the NY Concert Review, wrote about SoNoRo's debut in 2010 at the Zankell Hall: "... the ensemble must be one of the best, most versatile young groups before the public".
SoNoRo was born in 2006 in Bucharest as an experiment intended to bring chamber music back to Romania, where this genre of music making was somewhat forgotten at that time. Since then, SoNoRo Festival has developed into one of the most exciting, creative and internationally acclaimed cultural platforms in Eastern Europe. Performing artists include many of the most interesting and internationally appreciated musicians on stage today.
On Monday, November 30, 2015, 8 pm, at Weill Recital Hall (Carnegie Hall), SoNoRo will present a recital of works by Mahler (Piano Quartet in A Minor), R. Strauss (Piano Quartet in C Minor, Op. 13),Dohnányi (Piano Quintet No. 2, Op. 26), and Enescu (Romanian Rhapsody No. 1 in A Major, Op. 11, arr. Thomas Wally). The players of SoNoRo, Diana Ketler (piano), Daniel Rowland and Alexander Sitkovetsky (violin), Razvan Popovici (viola), and Julian Arp (cello) - who also pursue individual, solo, chamber music and teaching careers, are splendid technically, musically and communicatively, making this a true collaboration among equals.
On December 3, 6 pm, at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts Millennium Stage, the directors of the SoNoRo Festival in Bucharest, Romanian violist Razvan Popovici and London based Latvian pianist Diana Ketler, will be joined by German violinist Alissa Margulis for a concert of the finest quality. All three are highly acclaimed European musicians who have performed with some of the greatest orchestras and at prestigious festivals such as Lucerne Festival, Wiener Festwochen, Kuhmo Festival, Progetto Martha Argerich, and many others.
Highlights of the program include Mozart's ”Kegelstatt” Trio for Violin, Viola and Piano; Konzertstück for Viola and Piano by the great George Enescu; ”Tzigane” a violin virtuoso masterpiece by Maurice Ravel; as well as the Max Bruch composition ”Romanian Melody”, which was inspired by a traditional Romanian folksong genre “doina”.
The recital is made possible by the Romanian Cultural Institute, and the Embassy of Romania to the United States of America, in partnership with RA-Entertainment.
Ziua Națională a României, sărbătorită la New York și în capitala SUA
Ziua Națională a României va fi sărbătorită, și în acest an, printr-o serie de două recitaluri găzduite de Weill Recital Hall (Carnegie Hall), din New York, și de The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts Millenium Stage, din Washington, DC.
La cea de a zecea aniversare de la înfințare, Cvartetul SoNoRo se reîntoarce la Carnegie Hall, unde a debutat acum cinci ani, în Zankell Hall. Edith Eisler scria în 2010, în NY Concert Review, despre acest debut, că ”…ansamblul trebuie să fie unul dintre cele mai bune, mai versatile grupuri tinere, prezentate publicului”.
SoNoRo a fost înființat în 2006, în București, ca un experiment menit să readucă muzica de cameră în România, unde acest gen muzical era oarecum uitat, la acea vreme. De la înființare, Festivalul SoNoRo s-a dezvoltat într-una dintre cele mai incitante, creative și renumite platforme culturale din Europa de Est. Artiștii SoNoRo se numără printre cei mai apreciați muzicieni pe plan internațional.

Artiștii ansamblului SoNoRo, Diana Ketler (pian), Daniel Rowland și Alexander Sitkovetsky (vioară), Răzvan Popovici (violă), și Julian Arp (violoncel), dezvoltă și cariere solistice, ca interpreți ai muzicii de cameră și ca pedagogi, având o perfectă colaborare muzicală și de comunicare în cadrul cvartetului.
Joi, 3 decembrie 2015, de la ora 18:00, la The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts Millennium Stage, directorii Festivalului SoNoRo în București, violonistul român Răzvan Popovici și pianista letonă Diana Ketler, alături de violonista germană Alissa Margulis, vor susține un recital excepțional, al cărui program cuprinde Trio-ul ”Kegelstatt” pentru vioară, violă și pian, de Mozart; Konzertstück pentru violă și pian, de George Enescu; piesa de virtuozitate violonistică ”Tzigane”, de Ravel, și ”Melodia românească”, de Max Bruch, inspirată de o doină tradițională.
Recitalurile sunt organizate cu sprijinul Institutului Cultural Român și al Ambasadei României de la Washington, în colaborare cu RA-Entertainment.
